Laureen Lim
Speech Therapist
Laureen obtained her Bachelor in Speech and Language from Massey University in New Zealand in 2011. She brings more than 9 years of valuable experience in paediatrics. Previously at Fei Yue Community Services’ Early Intervention Programme for Infants and Children (EIPIC), she worked effectively with children (0-6 years old) who have autism, global developmental delays (GDD), speech delays (e.g. children with poor pronunciation), language delays (e.g. late talkers) or are fussy/picky eaters.
Playing a key role in an EIPIC transdisciplinary team with other professionals such as occupational therapists, teachers and psychologists, Laureen is well versed with multi-disciplinary work, which is needed to view each child holistically. Building on her work experience, Laureen has also provided clinical mentoring for university students and speech therapists.
Laureen has extensive experience partnering with parents/caregivers and she is passionate about caregiver education. She has conducted various coaching workshops for parents/caregivers on topics such as Hanen (It Takes Two to Talk), Hanen (More than words), SOS feeding approach, Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), PROMPT, etc.
Laureen strongly believes that every child has potential to learn, and early intervention with family partnership is important to help the child reach his/her full potential. Laureen aims for the child to use communication and feeding in all settings, including at home and in school. As a mother of three children, she recognizes that parents/caregivers spend the most time with their children (much more than therapists!) and can make important contributions to the child’s speech and language/feeding. Laureen enjoys guiding parents/caregivers on how to incorporate therapy goals into daily routines to optimize learning opportunities for the child.
Laureen is trained in the following professional skills:
- Hanen (It Takes Two to Talk)
- Hanen (More than Words)
- Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS)
- PROMPT (PROMPTs for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets)
- TalkTools- Oral Placement Therapy
- SOS Approach to Feeding
- Learn to Play

What patients say
Mother of K (3 years old)
Kyler embarked on his first speech therapy journey with Laureen in December 2021, at the age of 2. Initially, he spoke less than 3 words and heavily relied on gestures for communication. Following the assessment, Laureen identified apraxia of speech as his main challenge, assuring us that consistent weekly sessions for at least a year would yield improvement. By the time Kyler reached around 38 months, he was expressing a broader vocabulary, identifying various items, and progressing towards constructing shorter sentences. Notably, his attentiveness has also seen significant improvement. We are grateful to Laureen for her patience in coaching Kyler. It always takes a village to raise a child and especially a special kid. Thank you, Magic Beans, for walking this journey with us.
Mother of Z (3 years old)
I brought my 2.5 yo to Magic Beans as he had delayed speech as well as some impairment in social communication. He started off being not even able to gesture but now he has some spontaneous speech after a year of therapy. Tr Laureen has been patient and tries creative ways to work with my boy. Appreciate her efforts. What I particularly appreciate is that Magic Beans is just walking distance from Mountbatten MRT and the admin is really efficient as well. This makes the entire process seamless and convenient.
Mother of R (4 years old)
My child has been in therapy for the past 2 years with Laureen. Started off as being non-verbal and after 2yrs, he is now able to communicate and form simple sentences. Laureen is very detailed and customizes the therapy accordingly to the child’s interest to ensure maximum effectiveness. Laureen is patient and open to listen to issues and provide insights on how to overcome them. She goes out of her way to think through lesson plans. Highly recommended and many thanks for a passionate and driven therapist!
