If you do have a doctor’s memo or any relevant reports, please feel free to bring them along or send them to us in advance. Additional information can give us a fuller understanding of your or your child’s needs. We are also happy to collaborate with your doctor or any other professionals involved in your care to ensure a coordinated approach.
An initial assessment typically takes around 60 to 75 minutes. During this time, we will gather important background information, including your main concerns, your child’s developmental and medical history, and any relevant input from their school or other professionals. This helps us build a clear picture of your child’s strengths and areas of need.
We will then conduct a direct observation or assessment of your child’s communication and/or feeding skills using informal and/or standardised tools, depending on what’s most appropriate. After the assessment, we’ll discuss our initial findings with you and outline possible next steps.
Please note that depending on your child’s level of participation and the complexity of their needs, additional time or follow-up sessions may sometimes be required.
After the assessment, we will take the time to explain the findings in detail and provide recommendations based on your child’s specific needs. Together, we will set therapy goals that reflect both your priorities and your child’s developmental needs.
We will also agree on the frequency and scheduling of therapy sessions to best support your child. As therapy progresses, we will regularly review and update these goals in collaboration with you, ensuring the plan remains relevant and responsive to your child’s growth.
Depending on your child’s needs, severity and condition, the frequency of therapy differs. We provide intensive sessions, weekly, fortnightly, monthly session depending on the child and family’s needs and requirements.
Every child progresses at their own pace. The length of therapy depends on your child’s specific needs, goals, and developmental profile. Your therapist will work with you to set clear goals and provide a general idea of how many sessions may be needed, while regularly reviewing progress along the way. Therapists will advise reducing frequency of sessions or discharge you and your family, based on the functional goals and outcomes that was set.
