How does Magic Beans ensure the effectiveness of its therapy programs?

At Magic Beans, we ensure the effectiveness of our therapy programs by grounding our approach in comprehensive assessments, the individual needs of each child, and the priorities of their family. Our therapists use evidence-based practices and design personalized activities that align with the child’s interests, strengths, and developmental goals. We set realistic, measurable goals and regularly review each child’s progress. This ongoing evaluation allows us to monitor effectiveness and make timely adjustments to the therapy plan, ensuring meaningful outcomes for the child and their family.

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

No, a referral is not required. You are welcome to contact us directly to arrange an assessment. Reach out to us at +65 8777 3171 or info@magicbeans.sg.

If you do have a doctor’s memo or any relevant reports, please feel free to bring them along or send them to us in advance. Additional information can give us a fuller understanding of you or your child’s needs. We are also happy to collaborate with your doctor or any other professionals involved in your care to ensure a coordinated approach.

How long does an assessment take?

An initial assessment typically takes around 60 to 75 minutes. During this time, we will gather important background information, including your main concerns, your child’s developmental and medical history, and any relevant input from their school or other professionals. This helps us build a clear picture of your child’s strengths and areas of need.

We will then conduct a direct observation or assessment of your child’s communication and/or feeding skills using informal and/or standardised tools, depending on what’s most appropriate. After the assessment, we’ll discuss our initial findings with you and outline possible next steps.

Please note that depending on your child’s level of participation and the complexity of their needs, additional time or follow-up sessions may sometimes be required.

What happens after the assessment?

After the assessment, we will take the time to explain the findings in detail and provide recommendations based on your child’s specific needs. Together, we will set therapy goals that reflect both your priorities and your child’s developmental needs.

We will also agree on the frequency and scheduling of therapy sessions to best support your child. As therapy progresses, we will regularly review and update these goals in collaboration with you, ensuring the plan remains relevant and responsive to your child’s growth.

How long and how often will my child need therapy?

Depending on your child’s needs, severity and condition, the frequency of therapy differs.  We provide intensive sessions, weekly, fortnightly, monthly session depending on the child and family’s needs and requirements.

Every child progresses at their own pace. The length of therapy depends on your child’s specific needs, goals, and developmental profile. Your therapist will work with you to set clear goals and provide a general idea of how many sessions may be needed, while regularly reviewing progress along the way.  Therapists will advise reducing frequency of sessions or discharge you and your family, based on the functional goals and outcomes that was set.

Do you do online consultation?

Yes, we do. We provide teletherapy sessions through video calls. While some cases benefit more from in-person sessions, many clients experience equally effective outcomes online. We often work with international patients from the region using via video calls or phone calls to support continuity of care. Teletherapy sessions are found to be effective in many cases and is the next best option for those who do not reside in Singapore. For local or those who reside in Singapore, teletherapy sessions have also been very useful, for close monitoring of therapy progress and discussions.  Your therapist will help determine which format best suits your needs.
